The Beauty of Autumn: Fall Leaves in Watercolor with Pam Benoit

Learn to create beautiful luminescent colors in a loosely painted array of fall leaves. We will paint a collection of leaves with distinct shapes. It will be an opportunity to explore the importance of negative space in creating form and layering of color. Reference materials will include an assortment of leaves of the season and photos.
Supplies:

Pencil (Light pencil-could be a mechanical or a Hard pencil)

Kneaded eraser

Paper: Cold press paper 140 or 300 lb. weight; 12x16” or 14x20” or a ½ sheet (15x22)

Board to tape your watercolor paper on (Should be larger than your paper; Could be a piece of thick cardboard (I use the backs of pads of paper), or a piece of hard plexiglass or Masonite)

Roll of Tape (masking or painter’s tape)

Watercolor Brushes: 2 brushes- Medium Round watercolor brush (around a number 6) Small brush for details (around a size 2 or smaller)

Transparent Watercolor Paints: You will need a set of paints that includes multiple yellows, reds, browns, and greens (you may mix greens and browns). If you plan to purchase individual tubes or pans, you may want to invest in the following:

Yellows: Yellow ochre and Cadmium yellow

Reds: Cadmium red and Alizarin crimson

Browns: Burnt umber and Raw sienna

Greens: Sap green, Ultramarine blue (to be mixed with cadmium yellow/yellow ochre to make variations of green)

Watercolor palette (plastic, ceramic, or metal with mixing area)

Multiple facial tissues or a roll of toilet paper

This class is appropriate for beginners to more experienced painters. Covers basic watercolor painting techniques and provides individual assistance. No prior experience is required.
Pam Benoit is an award-winning teacher with a lengthy career teaching communication at universities. I’ve taught multiple watercolor workshops to beginners for various groups at UAB. Recently, I taught a floral watercolor workshop at Four Seasons Gallery.
