The object of this workshop is to gain an understanding of painting florals in an abstract way and to use this knowledge to fuel your studio practice. Today we will be learning partially from direct observation and imagination. We will also be discussing the French master floral painter Henri Fantin Latour.
- Break down the form to its basic shape
- Use the background to cut out the image
- Create a dynamic and striking abstract floral
- Let loose and have fun!

- Acrylic Paints (Abstract or Amsterdam)
- Venetian Pink or Venetian Rose
- Payne’s Gray
- Ivory Black
- Titanium White
- Yellow Ochre
- Sap Green
- Titan Buff
- Raw Sienna
- Burnt Umber
- Ultramarine Blue
- Vermillion or Cadmium Red
- Cadmium Yellow Lemon Hue
- Bristles paint brushes
- Royal Langnickel 3 Brush Value Pack (White Natural Bristle)
- Any brushes that you already have OR Princeton Real

- Palette knife (RGM #6)
- A pad of drawing paper, Strathmore 80 lb, white, 18” x 24”
- Charcoal, compressed sticks
- Paper towels
- Disposable palette (Grey Matters)
- Water cup
- Spray bottle
- Canvas sizes, no smaller than 10” x 10”, preferably square
- Golden Light Modeling Paste
- An open mind and a sense of humor
Level
This class is appropriate for beginners to more experienced painters. Covers basic watercolor painting techniques and provides individual assistance. No prior experience is required.
