            In this exploratory painting and drawing workshop, students will delve into a range of creative techniques designed to deepen their artistic expression and sharpen their visual storytelling. We will explore negative painting, where the focus shifts from painting the subject to painting around it; learn how to break down  representational images into large shapes; and experiment with pushing color and value beyond the expected to create striking and emotionally resonant compositions.

            Using a variety of expressive materials – including acrylic paints, soft pastels, oil pastels and oil sticks – student will learn how to bring their imagery to life on canvas through guided instruction and hands-on experimentation. Emphasis will be placed on personal interpretation, creative risk-taking, and developing a confident, intuitive approach to art-making. Reference images will be provided by the instructor to support and inspire your project.

Supplies Needed (Click on link to shop)

• Canvas (One canvas in sizes no smaller than 18x24)
• R&F Oil Sticks (1-3 in contrasting colors of your choice)
• Soft Pastels (3-5 in contrasting colors, sennelier brand preferred)
• Oil Pastels (3-5 contrasting colors, sennelier brand preferred)
• Acrylic paint (Suggested colors listed)
  
  • Titanium White
  • Transparent Red Iron Oxide
  • Cadmium Yellow Deep
  • Cadmium Red Light
  • Cobalt Blue
  • Payne’s Grey
  • Any other colors that catch your eye
• Paint brushes (At least one large flat [size 12-16] and one smaller round for detail [size 6 or 8])
• Graphite Pencil
• Kneaded Eraser
• (Please bring any other supplies that interest you, including but not limited to oil paints, acrylic gouache, art sponges, washi tape, etc.)

UPDATED CANCELLATION POLICY: Cancellations made 14 days or more in advance of the workshop will receive a refund equal to 50% of the cost of the class. Cancellations made within 14 days of the event will not receive a refund. This will help ensure that the instructor will be paid for their time and effort of teaching the workshop.
