Join illustrator Nancy Hollis for a gouache painting class focused on color theory and chromatic value. In this hands-on session, you’ll learn how to prep and paint on illustration board using just two complementary colors — burnt sienna and ultramarine — plus white to create a full range of values. We’ll explore how value, temperature, and color relationships interact while painting from a still life. The class will include a mix of live painting demonstration and directed studio time so participants can practice the techniques themselves.

Supplies Needed (Click on Link to Shop)

• 5x7 white illustration board (cold or hot pressed)

• White gesso

• Blackwing Pearl pencil (or other erasable pencil)

• Burnt sienna gouache (1 tube)

• Ultramarine gouache (1 tube)

• White gouache (1 tube)

• 1-2" gesso brush

• Round watercolor brush, size 4

• Flat watercolor brushes: 1/8" and 1/2"

• Cup for water

• Porcelain, glass, or enamel palette

• Cloth rag or paper towels

UPDATED CANCELLATION POLICY: Cancellations made 14 days or more in advance of the workshop will receive a refund equal to 50% of the cost of the class. Cancellations made within 14 days of the event will not receive a refund. This will help ensure that the instructor will be paid for their time and effort of teaching the workshop.
