This class will consist of learning the basic rules of portraiture. We will focus on two ways to complete a drawing. One is the grid method and the second is the Loomis method. The student will work using either method to develop their drawing.
Marcia will discuss her philosophy on painting a watercolor portrait and provide a demonstration. She will work with each student independently to assist with developing their own individual technique and style.
The students are encouraged to bring at least 3 photos with good lighting with shadows apparent. For instance, the light source on the right of the subject that create shadows on the left. (These photos can be black and white.) It is best to bring photos that will correspond to the size of the painting. For a painting that is 8" x 10" bring a photo that is also that size. We will first paint the portrait in a monochromic style focusing on light, medium and dark values. The next part of the class will focus on completing a very colorful portrait.
