Discover the quiet beauty of cows in the landscape through oil painting in this immersive, one-day workshop with Alisa Beck. Designed for beginner to intermediate painters, this class will guide you step-by-step in capturing the charm, texture, and atmosphere of pastoral scenes.

Cows, with their distinctive hide patterns and gentle presence, provide a wonderful opportunity to explore texture, color relationships, and the effects of light. You’ll learn how sunlight shifts the whites, blacks, browns, and reds of their coats—and how to translate those subtle variations into confident brushwork.

What You’ll Learn

• Fundamentals of mixing, blending, and layering oil paint
• Understanding composition, value, and color theory
• How to translate a photo reference into a strong, finished painting
• Techniques for capturing shape, form, and atmosphere in a landscape

Materials

Bring your own cow reference photos if you’d like to work from a personal image.

Required Supplies:

• Galkyd Medium or Liquin
• Gamsol with a sealed jar
• Variety of brush sizes (including one chip brush)
• 5" x 7" panel
• 8" x 10" or 11" x 14" canvas or panel
• Palette or palette paper
• Viva paper towels
• Oil paints:
• Williamsburg Courbet Green
• Cadmium Light
• Cadmium Red
• Transparent Red Ochre or Oxide
• Ultramarine Blue
• Titanium White

And of course—bring an adventurous spirit!

UPDATED CANCELLATION POLICY: Cancellations made 14 days or more in advance of the event will receive a refund equal to 50% of the cost of the event. Cancellations made within 14 days of the event will not receive a refund. This will help ensure that the instructor will be paid for their time and effort of teaching the event.
