Finding Your Signature Palette

Discover the colors that define your artistic voice

Color is one of the most personal choices an artist makes. In this workshop, artists will learn how to develop a signature color palette—a thoughtful group of colors that reflects their personal style, creative interests, and emotional tone. A signature palette can help create cohesion within a body of work, support a new series, and make an artist’s work feel more unified and recognizable across subjects and mediums.

Students will experiment with color relationships, mood, contrast, temperature, and personal preference.

This workshop is ideal for artists who want to bring more unity to their paintings, begin a new series, refresh their color choices, or better understand how color can support their artistic voice. The class is designed for all levels and encourages curiosity, play, and personal expression.

What You’ll Learn:

How to identify colors that resonate with your personal style
How color creates mood, emotion, and visual identity
How to use palette choices to create a more cohesive body of work
How to test, adjust, and refine color combinations
How a personal palette can carry across different subjects and mediums

Students Will Create:

Color swatches and palette studies
Mood-based color combinations
A personal reference sheet for future paintings
A small exploratory study using their chosen palette

Supplies Needed: We will use watercolors.

Watercolor paper pad, such as Strathmore or similar
Watercolor paints
Flat brushes, sizes 4, 6, or 8
Watercolor palette or palette paper
Cup for water
Paper towels
Pencil
Pocket color wheel
