Birmingham Art Alliance Volunteer Duties

Thank you for volunteering with the BAA! Your efforts to support our community are what fuel our alliance.

Volunteers are welcome to park in the Forstall Art parking lot. Andy, Madison, Phillip or Annette will let you into the gallery for your shift. You’re encouraged to bring a project and work while you gallery-sit.

We are located at 221 20th Street North, three doors down from Forstall Art Center.

Volunteer shifts are Fridays 5 to 8 pm, Saturdays 11 am to 2 pm, 5 to 8 pm, and Sundays 11 am to 2 pm. Please arrive on time and please do not leave before your shift is over.

Spiel: The Birmingham Art Alliance, founded September 2025, is dedicated to celebrating and promoting the vibrant and diverse artistic community of Birmingham, Alabama. We welcome artists and makers of all mediums to connect, collaborate, and share their creative voices with the community. New art monthly. There is a private bathroom for volunteers, NO public bathroom. Pizitz food court has public bathrooms.

We accept Venmo, cash & checks. No tax, as BAA is non-profit. When a customer buys a piece:

• Check the customer’s Venmo screen and confirm correct amount.

o   Put cash & checks in cashbox, given change as needed

• Take down Art Label and stick it in sales notebook
• In the sales pad, write the date, artist’s name, name of piece, price.
• On the artist’s inventory sheet, write the date of the piece sold.

Opening Duties

1) Turn on all overhead lights

2) Turn on speaker, connect via Bluetooth (speaker is Klipsch One II), put on some tunes

3) Turn air conditioning down to 72-69 degrees OR turn heat on to 69-72 degrees

4) Additional lighting: Turn on flood lamps in left front corner,

5) Put out sign

6) Prop door open (weather permitting)

7) Sit outside and invite people in! (weather permitting) If not, please wave people in.

Closing Duties

1) Bring in sign

2) Make sure door prop is inside

3) Make sure bathroom light is off

4) Turn air conditioning to 77 degrees OR turn heat down to 60 degrees

5) Turn off standing lamps

6) Turn off lights up front

7) Lock front door and leave through the 3^rd Ave door.
